WHOSE DRAFT IS IT?
September 22nd, 2004 11:11 pm
I’ve figured out the new Democratic National Committee’s campaign. They are going to blatantly lie their asses off for the next 40 days in an effort to win votes. They call Republicans fearmongers, but let’s look at who’s really peddling fear… and deceitful fear, at that.

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, citing the war in Iraq and other trouble spots in the world, raised the possibility Wednesday that a military draft could be reinstated if voters re-elect President Bush.

They’ve gone over the deep end now. As I posted yesterday, they always love to commit the bad acts then falsely accuse the Republicans of committing those very acts. This is another case in point. Kerry and Edwards were both on the campaign trail today hinting, commenting and remarking about how a Bush re-election would mean the reinstitution of a military draft.
But it is THE DEMOCRATS who seem to approve a draft. In fact, it was John Kerry HIMSELF that said, “he will not bring back the draft unless there is some “global conflict.”
UPDATE: In fact, John Kerry’s own website touts his plan to REQUIRE MANDATORY SERVICE!

John Kerry Outlines Plan to Require Service for High School Students

Part of 100 days Plan to Enlist One Million Americans in National Service A Year On September 11th, 2001, America experienced the most terrible and deadly attack in its history. John Kerry believes we need to think big and do better and get more young Americans serving the nation.

As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes requiring mandatory service for high school students and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service.

Not only that, but let’s just look at the “military draft” legislation that’s been initiated in Congress:
Introduced by Fritz Hollings, a DEMOCRAT.
Introduced by Charles Rangel, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Neil Abercrombie, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Donna Christensen, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - John Conyers, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Alcee Hastings, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Sheila Jackson-Lee, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Jim McDermott, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Fortney Pete Stark, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Corrine Brown, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - William Lacy Clay, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Elijah Cummings, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Jesse L. Jackson, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - John Lewis, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - James P. Moran, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Nydia Velazquez, a DEMOCRAT.
Co-Sponsor - Eleanor Holmes Norton (later withdrew), a DEMOCRAT.
That’s SEVENTEEN Democrats who have sponsored or co-sponsored legislation to re-instate the draft. There are NO Republicans behind either bill. NONE, ZERO, ZIP, NADA. Yet, those lousy Democrats are sending spam emails like this (my comments in red):

Mandatory draft for boys and girls (use the term “boys” and “girls” for emotional effect) (ages18-26) starting June 15, 2005. There is pending legislation in the House and Senate, S89 and HR 163, to reinstate mandatory draft for boys and girls (ages18-26) starting June 15, 2005. This plan includes women in the draft, eliminates higher education as a shelter, and makes it difficult to cross into Canada. The Bush administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public’s attention is on the elections. (so quiet, he’s having Democrats sponsor them)

The Bush administration plans to begin mandatory draft in the spring of 2005, just after the 2004 presidential election. (the timeline added for full effect) The Congress has added $28 million to the 2004 selective service system budget to prepare for this military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Bush has ordered the Selective Service to report to him by March 31, 2005 on their readiness to implement the draft by June 2005. The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide. Please act on this: Tell everyone you know - parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, godparents, friends, teachers Call and write to your U.S. Senator and your U.S. Representatives and ask them why they aren’t telling their constituents about these bills. (maybe because THEY’RE sponsoring them)

The ironic thing about this email and the Democrats’ push on this issue is given that both bills in Congress have been sponsored by Democrats, with the House Bill being co-sponsored by 15 Democrats, combined with the fact they’re saying the draft is a “Bush administration plan” - would mean that Bush is, in fact, a political uniter capable of bringing his political opponents in Congress together to sponsor a “Bush administration plan”?
I figured out why the lousy Democrats are doing this… Polls: Young fear return of draft The real fearmongers have their issue, according to the polls.
So let’s review:
THE LIES:
Kerry says a Bush re-election would mean a military draft.
Edwards says Bush wants a military draft.
The DNC spam says a military draft is the “Bush administration’s plan”.
THE FACTS:
Senate Bill introduced by a Democrat, no Republicans involved.
House Bill introduced by a Democrat, no Republicans involved.
House Bill co-sponsored by 15 Democrats, no Republicans involved.
John Kerry said, with qualification, he’d bring back the draft.
John Edwards said, “When they tell these lies, we’re going to call them exactly what they are: lies. And we’re going to hold them accountable and responsible for them.”
And that’s EXACTLY what we’re doing with you pathetic, lying Democrats.
Update: Unfortunately, it appears the Democrats’ lie is paying off. BlogsForBush cites a poll that shows kids are buying the lies. Sad.
