The News Flash That Wasn’t…
The headline for the Al-Reuters article is “Democrats find 2004 voting problems in Ohio” to give readers the initial sense that the story is going to uncover a treasure trove of information on how Bush’s election win was not legitimate.
In fact the first paragraph states, “More than a quarter of voters, and more than half of black voters, experienced problems at Ohio polling places during the 2004 presidential vote, a Democratic Party report said on Wednesday.”
But then the article says the problems uncovered were “long lines, uneducated election officials and problems with people not knowing how to register or where to go vote.” Oh yeah, and it affected alot of blacks.
…and then there’s the tiny little tidbit about “the problems [not being] enough to have changed the outcome” of the election.
So the real story is that people may have had a hard time voting… not because of some evil Republican scheme, but because they were impatient, untrained or confused… and even still George W. Bush legitimately received more votes in Ohio and won the election regardless of the findings.
Thanks for the news flash.
