The big news in the Valerie Plame non-story today is Judy Miller saying she doesn’t remember who gave her the name, but saying she was sure it wasn’t from Scooter Libby. But look how AP reporter Pete Yost writes his article:
Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald is investigating whether crimes were committed when Bush administration officials leaked the identity of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame to reporters. Plames covert status was exposed at a time when her husband, former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson, was criticizing the Bush administration.
If “Bush administration officials leaked the identity of covert CIA officer Valerie Plame to reporters” that would be the crime. Whether anyone in the administration leaked her name and status and whether she was covert are all yet to be proven… but Yost writes as if those are stipulated facts. Basically Yost is saying that Fitzgerald is investigating whether a crime was committed during the commission of a crime. Obviously we know where Yost falls on this non-story.
