Despite MSM’s constant derision of bloggers for not having “editorial control” and layers upon layers of publishing bureaucracy, it seems they keep finding themselves apologizing for incorrect stories, fabricated details and plagiarism.
Take for example the “retirement” of Michael Olesker at the Baltimore Sun. He’s been a journalist there for almost 30 years and has left his post abruptly because of a Jayson Blair-esque scandal. Seems he’s been lifting content from other sources with attribution for quite some time, a clear violation of Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics.
The latest example was content lifted (in an article attacking Bob Ehrlich) from a July 3, 2003 Washington Post article. And it wasn’t the first time. And this is a guy who’s been in the business nearly 3 decades with an entire newspaper and all its editorial controls and protections behind him.
Makes you wonder how long he’s been ignoring the canons of journalist integrity (or how long the paper’s been allowing it to happen). And it should make you even more skeptical whenever those in MSM opine from their self-appointed pedestals about the integrity of anyone outside their inner circle.
Unfortunately, this story is becoming all too common in MSM, so don’t expect to hear much more about this…
