The Chicago Tribune has posted the lyrics to the hideous Mexification of the Star-Spangled Banner (hat tip: Michelle):nuestro himno lyrics
Nuestro Himno
Published April 26, 2006Verse 1
Chant:
It’s time to make a difference the kids, men and the women/Let’s stand for our beliefs, let’s stand for our vision/What about the children los ninos como P-Star
These kids have no parents, cause all of these mean laws.
See this can’t happen, not only about the Latins.
Asians, blacks and whites and all they do is adding
more and more, let’s not start a war
with all these hard workers,
they can’t help where they were born.Verse 2
I guess now when I go to a ball game, instead of putting my hat over my heart, I’m supposed to throw it on the ground and dance around it.
Ay caramba!

Oh Hel* No!
I am so sick of this whole immigration theme. I say we line up every school bus, evry greyhound and start shipping them back. Then we need to send Fox a bill for the gas it took to take them there. A co-worker and I were joking about collars and invisible fences….

WAAAAHHHNH!!!! WAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! Quit crying you silly little baby. I’ve never heard such childish pedantry in my entire life. If you can explain what might possibly be wrong with this without sounding thoroughly ethnocentric in the process, you will deserve a Pulitzer!!!!! Remember — Spanish — as a language — has a rich and long history in the Continental U.S.

wow, you really hate hispanics, don’t you.
Since I’m fairly certain you DONT understand Spanish, I will tell you that its a beautifully poetic translation, faithful and losing none of the honor of the original.
But I’m certain you dont much care about that…after all, if its in Spanish, it must be ruined right?

Ok, how about this: The lyrics are stupid.
Where should I pick up my prize?

Actually, I know Spanish pretty well. It comes with being born and raised in South Central Texas. And if the lyrics didn’t suck, I’d enjoy it in any language.
But what I dislike is the trashing of Americanism. If you’re going to translate it, translate it. But if you’re going to pretend to substitute the NATIONAL anthem, expect some push back from the NATIONALS… the legal ones, that is.

An interesting — if entirely disengenuous — response. How come it didn’t sound like you were just commenting on the song’s “supidity” in your original post when you referred to it as a “hideous mexification”. Why not “hideous spanishication” — or “hideous translation”? It didn’t sound like you were just commenting on its stupidity when you worried that placing your hat over your heart would somehow be in danger of being replaced by some sterotypical mexican hat dance. It sounded much more like your typical banter — fear of the creep of the other into your white-washed midst.
Personally, I’m not even sure if I am a fan of the song yet or not. I would like to hear it first. But if you want to talk about stupid lyrics, from a purely aesthetic point of view you really can’t beat the Star Spangled Banner for insipid lyrics — which is why there has been a long tradition of people wanting to replace it with “America, the Beautiful”

It’s called sarcasm.

At the rate these supporters of illegal immgration are going they are virtually guaranteeing that they will get some laws that they will NOT like. Wonder if they ever heard of the term “backlash”, if they haven’t they soon will.
A couple of good thing that will come out of this will be the following…
1. The death of political correctness. Of course the LLL’s will still cling to it like their baby blankee but it will no longer work as a tactic to bludgeon people into silence who oppose LLL ideology.
2. The break up of the teachers unions and SEIU. Taxpayers are getting pretty sick and tired of seeing our tax dollars at work through those two marxist entities. Is time for them to go.

Reina, your comments are completely racist. You assume that Jason doesn’t speak Spanish because of his ethnic background. I think you’ve been exposed as the real hater.
And Daniel, the native American Indian languages have an even longer history than Spanish in this country, but I don’t hear you rushing out to create anything in their languages. You and Reina are the ethnocentric ones, thinking that the illegal immigration issues are only about Mexicans.

Rojo, Blanco,
President Bush believes that our national anthem should be sung in English, not Spanish. From AP:One of the things that’s very important is, when we debate this issue, that we not lose our national soul, the president exclaimed. One of
