The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline, according to the Department of Energy is $2.91. That’s up $0.67 from one year ago ($2.24/gallon).
Average annual gasoline consumption in the U.S. is 464 gallons/person.
That means that the extra amount the average American will spend on gas this year, compared to last year, at the current price of gas is about $314… or $0.86 a day.
The median income for a 4-person family in the U.S. is about $65,093.
The Democrats’ proposed 60-day holiday for the federal excise tax (which is currently $0.183) will save the average American a grand total of $14.14 this year. Wow. I really think I’ll vote Democrat now!
Except for the fact that the same family, making the same income, will lose over $1,000 PER MONTH in retirement income because the Democrats keep stalling Social Security reform.
But hey, thanks for the $14.14… I might spring for an extra grande double mocha… in 2 months.
