It looks like there’s a mixed reaction all around on this one. I think the life in prison will be a better punishment than giving the guy an easy death by injection. And while none of the jurors thought there would be a martyrdom effect, I do think there would’ve been. We have to remember, the enemy is not rational and would use the beheadings of their own mothers for propaganda tapes if they thought it would help their jihad.
My personal take on this is that until we can perfect a technique whereby we can put Moussaoui to death 2,819 times, we can’t really exact the appropriate justice for this scumbag.
However, in a lifetime in jail, he may find 2,819 moments of justice exacted upon him by his new roommates.
Here’s a big roundup of reactions.

The problem with life in prison is he can be paroled–it’s happened. And remember he’s a French citizen and we know the State Department can be a problem and who will the president be in ten years. Finally, Moussaoui will have an imam and many possible converts. For some, prison is an easy life.

I cannot figure out why a declared enemy of state was afforded a civil trial. A military tribunal was more appropriate. Moussaoui’s death by a firing squad that had dipped their bullets in pig’s blood would have sent a very clear message to his idiotic brethren. We missed an opportunity here. We will continue to be viewed by radical islamofascists as weak and inconsequential - by our own doing. Moussaoui is right, America lost.

Martyrdom
No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. These terrorists and jihadis want to die for their cause. Americans, and American soldiers, want to live - knowing innately what …
