Elizabeth Dole correctly predicted just last week, what Democrats will do if they regain power… and Democrats promptly responded with a denial:
The head of the Senate Republican committee paints a dire picture of Democratic congressional control, warning that the opposition party would “put the war on terrorism on the back-burner” and maybe even impeach President Bush.
In a fundraising appeal this week, Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., asks for immediate financial help “to prevent the most left-wing Democrat Party in history from seizing control of the United States Senate” in the November elections.
Democrats dismissed the letter as hyperbole.
Then, as if on a cue from Karl Rove, himself, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, jumped on national television to proclaim that, in fact, Dole’s warning was not hyperbole, but rather a spot-on analysis of the Democrats’ agenda:
Democratic leaders, increasingly confident they will seize control of the House in November, are laying plans for a legislative blitz during their first week in power that would raise the minimum wage, roll back parts of the Republican prescription drug law, implement homeland security measures and reinstate lapsed budget deficit controls.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said in an interview last week that a Democratic House would launch a series of investigations of the Bush administration, beginning with the White House’s first-term energy task force and probably including the use of intelligence in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. Pelosi denied Republican allegations that a Democratic House would move quickly to impeach President Bush. But, she said of the planned investigations, “You never know where it leads to.”
Thank you, Nancy. It’s nice to know we can still count on you to rally our base… even if our leaders aren’t trying.
