Looks like Canadian domestic spying programs worked to uncover and thwart a major terror attack planned for Toronto.
Lots of blogosphere coverage already.
I noticed something curious…
“This group took steps to acquire three tons of ammonium nitrate and other components necessary to create explosive devices,” said assistant Royal Canadian Mounted Police commissioner Mike McDonell.
and…
“The men arrested yesterday are Canadian residents from a variety of backgrounds. For various reasons, they appeared to have become adherents of a violent ideology inspired by al-Qaida,” said Luc Portelance, the assistant director of operations with CSIS — Canada’s spy agency.
and…
Officials showed evidence of bomb-making materials
and…
The Toronto Star reported today that Canadian youths in their teens and 20s…
Hmmm… 20-something men, with a group of guys from varying backgrounds, interested in explosives and trying to acquire an excessive amount of ammonium nitrate?
Sounds familiar. Maybe officials will simply determine this is a case of a bunch of “lonely kids who just wanted to stop living”.
Update: Let’s also not forget to ask our liberal friends just what it was that Canada did to the islamonutjobs to deserve this? Afterall, the Left keeps telling us it’s all America’s fault. Another liberal theory bites the dust.

Shockingly, those were legal spy programs being conducted in Canada. You know, the kind where you get search warrants and stuff. There is no question that domestic spying helps, but it must be done within the law. The Canada case shows that it can be effective without pulling any stunts.

Shockingly, the programs were no different than those in the U.S. Thanks for acknowledging the NSA program is legal.

You remind me of that annoying ex-girlfriend that shows up on my lawn at two in the morning ranting about who-knows-what until the neighbors start throwing rocks at you. Yeah, either that or an irritating little, teddy-bear-humping chihuahua that won’t shut up.

Forgive my commenting the same here as at another site. It seems you have some dillusional folks that need some perspective…
So there is no doubt in anyone’s mind, especially the shallow ones, the folks that defend your freedoms and liberties give up some of those very sme freedoms and liberties. It is voluntarily done so as to preserve your freedom and liberty.
Anyone on the left have a clue of what I write? And you categorically object to the infringement of terrorist’s freedoms (within our borders) to unabatedly plot to destroy us? You’ve got a lot to learn about liberty and freedom. Those who have fought for freedom have a different perspective on its value.
You’ve also got a lot to learn about our openly proclaimed enemy. 9-11 is in the past; so is Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Would anyone like to see them repeated? Doesn’t it make sense to do everything in our power to prevent another such attack?! Well, it does to those who give their lives in defense of your freedoms and liberties.
