From Byron York:
TODAY’S ECONOMICS QUIZ
Q: Was U.S. economic growth higher during the time John Snow was Treasury Secretary, or during the time Robert Rubin was Treasury Secretary?
A: It was the same, 3.8 percent.
Based on media coverage, would anyone actually get this right? Snow also presided over a larger Employment Growth than Rubin. But would you have known?
In fact, I’ll admit, it’s not really fair to compare Snow’s tenure to Rubin’s. That’s because Rubin presided over an economy powered by the proliferation of the Internet, which changed the landscape of business more than anything in recent history, and an economy boosted by the quicksand growth of scandal-ridden companies like Enron, Worldcom, etc… and Snow presided over an economy that had been plagued by terrorists acts, multiple wars and and ever-growing bitterness in politics.
But who’s counting?
