Formerly known as “Tom Delay’s District”, Texas Congressional District 22 is a seat the Democrats are proudly proclaiming as their own now that “The Hammer” has stepped aside.

They’re banking on liberal Nick Lampson, who’s still bitter about losing his Congressional seat to Ted Poe. Of course, they’re kind of lost now because Lampson’s entire campaign was built around the “I’m not Tom Delay” mantra. Now, instead of relying on telling voters who he’s not, he’s got to actually tell them who he is. And it’s not a pretty site.

But Sugarland Mayor David Wallace has officially announced his write-in candidacy. I met David almost exactly a year ago at a breakfast with Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas. I’ll repeat what I said about him then:

He’s pro-life, anti-gun control, anti-same sex marriage, and pro-lower taxes. He supports Bush in the war on terrorism and is in favor of tougher border control. My kind of Republican. I think if Tom Delay ever leaves his seat in District 22, Wallace might be a good replacement.

Looks like it’s in the works now.

I urge you to check out his campaign site and help in any way you can… especially if you live in the Houston area.

Here is his stance on the issues:

As a lifelong conservative, I believe in the principles of less government, more personal freedom, fiscal responsibility and traditional family values.

As your next congressman, I will:

- Defend the Right to Life for unborn children
- Fight for lower taxes so families can keep more of what they earn
- Stop the skyrocketing deficit spending that is putting our economic future at risk
- Secure our borders and ports of entry to stop the flow of illegal aliens
- Strengthen our immigration laws to protect our way of life
- Support President Bush in the War on Terror
- Ensure our military including every soldier, sailor, marine and airman has the tools they need to be successful
- Protect traditional marriage
- Stand up for our Second Amendment freedoms
- Be an effective conservative voice for District 22 citizens

I’ve officially endorsed him. You should, too.

  1. Jason, we could use David Wallace in the White House in 09, to heck with District 22. I have this deep aboding fear that we’re going to end up with McCain as the GOP presidential nominee. He is one of a couple GOPers that would cause me to not vote for a president on 08.

  3. Great, so we get more Republicans…Let’s see that’s got us the LARGEST Government EVER and that’s excluding Homeland Security…Good Christian men like DeLay, Nay, Cunningham and Reed…Men who never saw a payoff they didn’t love while falsely carrying the “flag” of the Lord…The GOP has the White House, Congress and the Supreme Court and for 5 years has not accomplished a thing! Well my gas is $3.08 a gallon so I guess that’s something…Oh and they’ve done a grwet job of growing China while turninh their back on China sponsoring the Bill to condemn Israel’s invasion of Lebanon…GOP mantra, Pay to say whatever you want…

  4. David left some information off his website — I’ve included it on mine.

Rest assured, this precinct chair who lives in the CD22 won’t be supporting him.

  5. RWR,
Seems like a lot of “complaints” and “accusations” with nothing more. He was a business turn-around specialist, which means he was involved in a lot of failing businesses by the very nature of what he was doing. Some were rescued, some weren’t.

A troubled business seeking to improve its financial position and put an end to its spiraling debt and losses may look to a professional turnaround specialist as its best chance for long-term survival. In a fragile and often volatile economy it is indeed the turnaround specialist, armed with the proper skills and blessed with total objectivity, who can best accomplish such a feat. Unfortunately many businesses come to this conclusion late, so that by the time the turnaround professional arrives on the scene, there are few options left except to sell or liquidate the company.

Then there’s the “guilty by association” ties to Mark Thatcher. Thatcher maintains that his financing of a charter helicopter, presumably to be used as an air ambulance, was simply a case where he should’ve used more caution in the transaction… hence his plea deal. He was never charged with involvement in a coup attempt.

  6. […] Sugarland Mayor David Wallace has dropped his bid to run as a write-in candidate for Texas District 22 (Tom Delay’s old district). I had thrown my support behind David, but the local Republican leaders decided this past weekend to endorse only one candidate (a smart move) for the write-in campaign, and it wasn’t David. While I still don’t believe all of the accusations tossed his way (even from the Right), I applaud his sacrifice for the betterment of the TX-22 constituents. It’s better to get behind the consensus choice than run on principle and personal desire, only to let liberal Nick Lampson backdoor his way into the seat. […]
