Was it just bad timing or poor taste?
From the Lexington Herald-Leader:
LEX 18 News ended an evening recap of yesterday’s coverage of the Comair Flight 5191 crash for the live broadcast of the prime-time Emmy Awards. The annual TV awards show opened with shots of host Conan O’Brien bouncing inside a plane before it crashed on an island in a spoof of ABC’s hit show Lost.
Hot Air has the video.
You’d have thought this pre-recorded intro could’ve been pulled in light of this morning’s events. Guess that’s too much to ask.

Get over it…it is obvious that this was not a slap at anyone. Why are you so overly sensitive when it comes to comedy, the bit was funny.

While the skit might have been funny, it was the timing and lack of sensitivity by the network that was disturbing.
Max, would you still think it was funny if you lost a loved on Flight 5191? I think not!
And somehow, this too will be blamed on Bush!

A parody on “Lost “hardly transcribes into insensitivity in regard to a plane crash which people who , wisely do not watch any of our news outlets these days, could have been ignorant of.
People happen die every day in this country and in the world of things much more preventable and tragic and no one seems concerned.
My heart goes out to everyone who loses people for whatever reason but I think that it’s ridiculous to take this issue and run with it as if it is some large faux paus.

Nita Rene hits the nail on the head….If you lost a loved one on Flight 5191, you’d consider it a strong slap on the face. Like airing the Towering Inferno on September 12th.
As a Kentuckian, I realized how close I could have come to losing a loved one on the flight as well. Granted, I didn’t, but I found the spoof just as unthoughtful.
