Judge Beheads Jihadi’s Lawsuit
October 26th, 2006 9:54 pm

Allahu ackbar.

Danish Muslims lost another legal battle Thursday over the infamous Prophet Mohammed cartoons, as a court rejected a lawsuit against the newspaper that first printed them.

The Jyllands-Posten daily hailed the verdict as a victory for freedom of speech. Arab politicians and intellectuals warned it would widen the gap between Westerners and Muslims, but said mass protests were unlikely.

“The dismissal of the lawsuit against the newspaper, which was expected, confirms the ongoing intention to harm our religion and our prophet,” said Mahmoud al-Kharabsheh, an independent legislator who heads the Jordanian parliament’s legal committee.

Sorry, Mahmoud, but the only harm being done to your religion and your prophet is from the muslims who keep burning, murdering, raping and pillaging in the name of Allah.

Karl Rove, You Magnificent Bastard
October 26th, 2006 7:58 pm

Liberals are so fond of polls, are they? Well stick this CNN Poll in your pipe and smoke it:

Most Americans do not believe the Bush administration has gone too far in restricting civil liberties as part of the war on terror, a new CNN poll released Thursday suggests.

While 39 percent of the 1,013 poll respondents said the Bush administration has gone too far, 34 percent said they believe the administration has been about right on the restrictions, according to the Opinion Research Corp. survey. Another 25 percent said the administration has not gone far enough.

That’s 59% that say the administration has not gone too far in restricting civil liberties, despite all the pissing and moaning from the Bush-haters on the Left.

But maybe it’s about abuse of power, right? Wrong.

Asked whether Bush has more power than any other U.S. president, 65 percent of poll respondents said no. Thirty-three percent said yes. Of those who said yes, a quarter said that was bad for the country.

Then there’s the al-Reuters poll asking which party respondents think would do better at stopping nuclear proliferation…

Given that there’s only about 1/3 of the public, according to these polls, that believes the Bush administration is abusing powers, destroying civil liberties and screwing up national defense in the war on terror, I hope Democrats keep putting this issue at the forefront of the campaign. It’s not an issue on which Democrats will win.

The No-Win Situation with Housing
October 26th, 2006 2:33 pm

Last year, the news in the housing market was doom and gloom.

Soaring house prices and higher mortgage rates have put homeownership out of reach for more people than at any time in more than a decade.

Housing affordability in October sank to its lowest levels since 1991

Affordability has long been a problem for low-income home buyers. But as home prices have marched steadily higher in recent years, many buyers with healthier incomes also are being squeezed.

Prices were rising and therefore people were having a harder time being able to afford the purchase of a home. So the falling prices of homes should be good news, right?

Wrong. Falling prices now signal doom and gloom.

The median price of a new home plunged in September by the largest amount in more than 35 years, even as the pace of sales rebounded for a second month.

The debate is whether the slowdown will be enough to push the country into an outright recession.

So when prices were rising, the MSM was concerned with the “affordability gap” for low-income home buyers. But now that prices are falling, MSM is not praising the newfound affordability of houses - as evidenced by the surge in home sales… no, now they’re concerned that falling prices are evidence of an impending recession.

So to sum this up:

Rising housing prices = bad
Falling housing prices = bad

It’s all so clear now.

It’s The Bias, Stupid
October 25th, 2006 7:44 pm

ABC News political director Mark Halperin…

…the guy that told his ABCnews staff, during the 2004 election, to go harder on President Bush than John Kerry and justify it by claiming Bush deserves it…

…and who proclaimed, “We the media love John Edwards!”

…and whose father works for George Soros…

…is finally acknowledging there is bias in the MSM.

“You know how this works, one of the things we wrote in the Note is there are no strategy calls. We’re not on the phone with Howard Dean and George Soros in the morning getting our marching orders, but the mindset at ABC, where you and I used to be colleagues at, at the other big news organizations, it’s just too focused on being more favorable to Nancy Pelosi, say, than Newt Gingrich, being more down on the Republicans’ chances than perhaps is warranted, singling out, you’re seeing here a “60 Minutes” piece about Nancy Pelosi. I don’t remember Newt Gingrich getting a piece that favorable in 1994.”

Thank you, Captain Obvious. This is like Hitler finally admitting he might not really like Jews.

The funny thing about this interview is that Halperin admits this has been going on for four decades, then says:

I think we’ve got a chance in these last two weeks to prove to conservatives that we understand their grievances, we’re going to try to do better, but these organizations still have incredible sway, and conservatives are certain that we’re going to be out to get them. We’ve got to fix that.”

Halperin claims that the biased MSM can rectify 40 years of biased reporting in just 2 weeks… 2 weeks before an election, no less.

What are they going to do, fire everybody?

Couldn’t Have Said it Better Myself

Here’s what Nancy Pelosi said in reference to a possible Democrat takeover of Congress (hat tip: Michelle):

“The gavel of the speaker of the House is in the hands of special interests, and now it will be in the hands of America’s children.”

I agree. You elect Democrats and the power will be in the hands of children.

HotAir had a post about some folks pranking the DNC’s donation webpage and I went to the DNC page to see how it was done when I noticed something interesting.

On both the DNC donation page and the above-mentioned pledge page, the drop-down box for “country” includes countries like Iran and Yemen. Makes you wonder from whom they’re soliciting funding.

Here’s a clue from a prior election cycle:

Federal Election Commission disclosed Friday it has imposed a record-setting $719,000 in fines against participants in the 1996 Democratic Party fund-raising scandals involving contributions from China, Korea and other foreign sources.

The FEC documents describe Democratic fund-raisers who set specific prices for foreign citizens to make illegal campaign contributions in return for meetings with then-President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore. A Democratic finance vice chair, for example, said organizers would have to contribute a total of $100,000 in return for Gore’s appearance at a Buddhist temple in Los Angeles.

Those penalized included the Democratic National Committee, the Clinton-Gore campaign, the Buddhist temple and nearly two dozen people and corporations acting as conduits for illegal contributions. All have agreed to pay, according to the documents.

The total in fines would have been significantly higher except that some of the corporations have folded and others were dummy operations, with no assets, set up as conduits for money from China, Venezuela, Canada and other countries.

They’re probably canvassing Pyongyang as we speak.

The site is up. America is at a crossroads, and the decisions we make today will define the scope of freedom for a generation. We can’t afford to stand on the sidelines. That’s why I’ve decided to do my part. I’ve set up a personal web site to raise money for a Republican victory this November, and I’ve set an ambitious goal. Will you help me meet it?

You just gotta love the hypocritical Left.

While some high-profile Hollywood elitists are busy protesting a proposed natural gas facility that would be 14 miles off the coast of Malibu, they’re busy dumping raw sewage directly on the beaches of Malibu. (hat tip: BCB)

Meanwhile, on the other coast, America’s first offshore wind farm, a clean source of energy sitting 6 miles offshore, that will provide up to 3/4 of Nantucket’s electricity is being opposed by liberal elitists because they don’t want any threat of obstructions to the view from their multi-million dollar compounds.

But hey… for everyone else, that green-living is a heckuva deal.

UPDATE:
I knew it wouldn’t be long before Al Gore made his presence known in this post.

Former Vice President Al Gore appeared in Berkeley on Monday to lend his celebrity and reputation as a crusader against global warming to a measure on California’s Nov. 7 ballot that would tax oil companies to raise $4 billion for green energy projects.

“I’m here to change peoples’ minds on the climate crisis and to support Prop 87,'’ Gore called to a group of reporters after he emerged from the “100 miles per gallon'’ Toyota Prius that brought him to a noontime rally in a sun-drenched park behind Berkeley’s City Hall.

His motorcade also included three motorcycles, two limousines and a Dodge Ram 1500 light duty truck.

Gore likened the global-warming crisis to having a sick child: No responsible parent would delay treatment once a diagnosis is rendered, he said.

But Gore’s treatment is like making the sick kid chase an ounce of antibiotic with a gallon of cyanide.
