How We View Government
November 8th, 2006 7:23 pm

I’ve had quite a few people email me asking to explain the difference between the Conservatives’ reactions to losing this election and the Liberals’ reactions to losing the prior three. A friend of mine even asked why I wasn’t depressed today.

My explanation is simple, albeit still just a personal opinion.

Liberals typically view the federal government through the lenses of trust and entitlement. To them, the federal government is the answer to all their problems. When Liberals lose control of their provider, they worry about how they’ll get by.

But Conservatives view the federal government with distrust and inefficiency. Since we already think the federal government is not the answer, when we lose control, we’re confident in knowing that we’ll get by on our own, anyway.

It’s all about self-determination. And today, my life goes on.
