No-one in gov't seems to want to explain the truth about minimum wage anyway, especially to those making minimum wage. The problem comes in when the wage goes up, then so does the amount of matching taxes that the employer pays on those making min wage, which is a percentage. This causes the employer to raise prices on the goods or services he provides, causunge a cascade effect that ends up in the prices for basic services and everyday expenses to go up by the percentage of the wage hike PLUS the percentage of employment and sales taxes. Therefore a minimum wage hike actually means the wage earner just ended up with LESS to live on than before!

TR - Looks like no one is trying too hard to convince you. I guess they don't think you'll accept "because" as a good enough argument.

Has the minimum wage always been intended as a "livable wage", supposedly meaning that it was to be able to support someone, or a family?

Rush had an intersting comment on this the other day. An interpretation he gave was that a rise in the minimum wage was a "resetting" of the floor for union wages. Interesting thought.
