As an anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, pro-gun Conservative, I am also supporting Guiliani. Sure, he is a little more liberal than I on social issues, BUT I believe that when it comes to leadership, no one out there is his equal. If I thought he would actively promote abortion and gay marriage, I wouldn't support him, but I don't believe that's what he's about. I think that out of all the candidates from both parties, he alone has the unique ability to unite this country.

And you are absolutely right about electibility. Sometimes, you have to go for the guy who isn't your own exact mirror, because he is the one who can win. No other Republican at this moment shows a likelihood of winning, no matter how much I may like him. Therefore, I support Rudy because I believe that he can, and will, win, and he is without a question the better option than anything the Democrats can serve up.

"I’m interested in your take on Mike Huckabee."

I like him as a social conservative, but not so fond of his tax-raising fiscal policies. I also don't think he's a viable contender in this cycle. How's that for short and sweet? :)

I agree that Rudy is a strong contender... but I'm not completely convinced.

"Do you really think it comes down to Rudy vs. Mitt?"

At this point, given the current candidate pool, it does for me. Whether that's how the party establishment sees it, is another story. They probably view it as Rudy/McCain. (Though, if Newt enters the race, I'll have someone I can support fully.)

I'm still sticking to my earlier prediction on McCain, though.

Really interesting stuff. Do you really think it comes down to Rudy vs. Mitt?

Just one point from someone who lived in NYC from 1997 to 2003; I strongly doubt that Rudy could actually put the State of NY into play. 1997 was ten years ago, and he won't be up against Mark Green for mayor. He could make it mildly interesting, but he's as likely to bring NY in the general election as Edwards would be to bring North Carolina.
