The Backdoor Antiwar Strategy
May 10th, 2007 8:28 pm

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, given that many of the Democrat Presidential candidates don’t even think there’s a war on terror going on.

It looks like the Left is rehashing the “Katrina antiwar strategy”. The newest campaign kicked off this past weekend when Kansas Democrat Governor Kathleen Sebelius claimed that shortages of equipment and well-trained personnel slowed Guard response to the killer tornadoes that ravaged her state.

“There is no doubt at all that this will slow down and hamper the recovery,” Sebelius, a Democrat, told Reuters in Kansas where officials said the statewide death toll had risen to 12 on Monday.

“Not having this equipment in place all over the state is a huge handicap,” Sebelius said.

And who’s helping get this message out?

On Monday, anti-war groups, including the National Security Network and Americans Against Escalation in Iraq cited the shortage of equipment to deal with the Kansas disaster as the latest example of what they see as the war’s detrimental impact on domestic security.

Of course they did.

And of course, it’s all a big lie.

While Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and the Bush administration jaw back-and-forth over the relief efforts for Greensburg, Kan., the town devastated by Friday night’s F-5 tornado, town residents have chimed in and say they couldn’t be any happier with the response from the government and other rescue units.

The poor response thing is just political BS,” Greensburg resident Mike Swigart, 47, who lost his house and four vehicles from the storm, told wcbstv.com in an exclusive interview. “I saw her on television and I’m disappointed in that because she doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”

Maybe she didn’t realize the response was adequate because she’d actively worked to insure it wouldn’t be. It appears this isn’t just a case of another Democrat Governor shooting off her mouth to score political points… this appears to be a well orchestrated campaign.

Sebelius, was calling to apologize to the Senator for making the Political statements that she did. She explained that she did not believe them and that they actually had too many National Guardsmen show up.

Governor Sebelius explained “Sam, you know how political everything is right now and we’re not allowed to let an opportunity like this just pass.” She continued “I made sure not to blame you or Pat (Senator Roberts?) or anybody outside the White House. With his (Bush’s) numbers, you can’t really blame me for usin’ that.”

Then Sebelius explained the path to her comments. After Brownback told her that he was very disappointed in her, She pleaded “You know me Sam, I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t have to.” She declared “Howard (Dean) called me around 5 o’clock (in the morning) and told me not to ask The White House for any help or make any statements until I heard back. Dick (Durban?) called me an hour or 2 later and that’s when he told me we needed to use this ‘n’ said to talk about the Guard all bein’ at war.”

She then explained the thinking; “Speaker and Harry got so much heat on them from both sides over this damn war, ‘n’ they need to get the press on somethin’ else. I didn’t think it was right to use it like this either, but I didn’t see’s I had much choice in this climate, Sam.”

And for good measure, the MSM is jumping on the blame bandwagon.

With repeated deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan leaving state National Guards without nearly half of their required equipment, some governors are loudly questioning whether they will be able to handle the next hurricane, wildfire or terrorist attack at home.

Of course, the only Democrat quoted in the article that doesn’t have a (D) by his or her name is RINO Schwarzenegger. It’s probably because of this fact, the author has decided to leave party affiliations out of the article altogether.

If only the Democrats would fight as hard and as creatively to support the soldiers’ mission as they do to undermine it…
