Moore’s Law
May 18th, 2007 4:36 pm

No, not the one referring to technology… the one referring to the Michael Moore’s of the world:

Short, fat people may get rights

BOSTON — Ellen Frankel stands just 4-foot-8 inches tall, a size that allowed larger co-workers to playfully scoop her up at the office and make remarks about her height. Some even patted her on the head.

Lawmakers are considering complaints such as hers as they review a bill that would make Massachusetts just the second state to bar discrimination based on height or weight.

We just keep sliding down that slippery slope, don’t we? Of course, lawmakers eager to pat themselves on the back for carving out yet another protected class to which they can pander for votes on ridiculous issues, ignore the law of unintended consequences… that employers may actually discriminate because of the law. Fearing reprisal for firing someone for reasons unrelated to their ‘protected status’ may result in employers not hiring said person in the first place. Just another ‘card’ that employers have to fear being played when they make legitimate decisions to release an employee…

Republican analyst Todd Domke sums it up best:

‘’We might as well add colorblind, left-handed, allergic-to-cashews, and get it over with.”

In due time, Todd, in due time…

I just wished liberals would get as concerned about protecting us from terrorist enemies as they are about protecting us from hurt feelings…

  1. You know, instead of saying how ridiculous it is to make a law like this, why don’t we focus on how ridiculous it is that a law like this has to be even considered?

Maybe if people had more respect for each other and didn’t have these images of perfect and unrealistic body types bombarding them, we wouldn’t have to make rules like this to protect Ellen. Who the hell “playfully” scoops someone up and pats them on the head? It sounds pretty demeaning to me.

    Just a thought.

Exactly…the legislative process should not be used to protect people’s feelings…

If you liberals wanna start using legislation to protect something, start with the lives of unborn children…

  3. I guess we should get rid of laws that combat racism, homophobia, misogyny, and the like… those kinds of things basically just “hurt feelings” as well.

Or, maybe we can all respect each other and stop creating these artifical divisions. Then these things wouldn’t be an issue.

  4. Just surfed in. Great blog you got yourself here!

BTW, I have to agree with Domke. Everone’s a victim nowadays.

What did all these disinfrachised people do 50 or 100 years ago? Oh, that’s right, there were none because they had enough common sense to know the World is not perfect!

  5. If the folks on the left would quit elevating “hurt feelings” to the level of felonies, perhaps we could all, “just get along.”

  6. I think that society has gone to hell in a handbasket. Is it discrimination to pick someone up or pat them on the head? Perhaps. But people also need to take a freaking pill and calm down as well. It is most often meant as a joke and should be treated as one.

  7. You know what offends me? Seeing two gay people lavishing there affections on eachother in public. I really get offended by this. Why isn’t there a law out there to protect my feelings. And also all of the “Gentlemens” Club signs I pass up while going on outings with my family. Offensive ……again.

  8. Hah! Conservatives are funny.

If half of what Bush claims is true, we are in more danger from hurt feelings than from terrorists! After all, we’re fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them here… right?

Don’t believe we’re in danger from hurt feelings? Ask Virginia Tech about it!

  9. Virginia Tech? You have got to be kidding! You really believ that that kid did it because of hurt feelings? He was a deranged psychopath that should have been spotted for that, being deranged. But because of the fact that they did not want to risk frivalouse lawsuits by calling him out, they let him slip. Sometimes profiling is not a bad thing.
