How do you think the MSM would cover a story involving a conservative refusing to shake hands with Hillary Clinton simply because she was a woman or Joe Lieberman because he’s Jewish? I can almost guarantee there’d be a lot more coverage and certainly more specials on diversity or tolerance than there is when a liberal refuses to shake hands with a conservative candidate because he’s a Mormon.
Mitt Romney’s visit to New Hampshire started on a sour note Tuesday when a restaurant patron declared he would not vote for the Republican presidential contender because of his faith.
“I’m one person who will not vote for a Mormon,” Al Michaud of Dover shouted at Romney when the former Massachusetts governor approached him inside Harvey’s Bakery. Romney was kicking off the second of two day’s worth of campaign visits in the lead primary state.
Romney kept smiling as he asked, “Can I shake your hand anyway?”
Michaud replied, “No.”
Michaud later told reporters he was not “a right-winger,” alluding to some evangelical Christians who have compared Romney’s faith to a cult. Instead, Michaud stated he was “a liberal.”
Cultural diversity is a one way street for liberals. When they preach “tolerance” it’s tolerance of them, not tolerance from them…

Well I did hear the guy and Romney was a pretty good sport about it at least. I guess every country is entitled to a few ignorant old men. One of yours just got nailed on camera is all!

Hmm. Could be a ringer too. In any case, the incident was reported widely.
CBS: “Voter Rebuffs Romney Over Religion”
Boston Globe/Forbes/Guardian: “Romney criticized for Mormon faith in NH”
New York Post has the best headline: “ANTI-MORMON MORON’S BIG FIT AT MITT”
Fox and CNN carried the incident too.
Most news outlets went with a more positive headline saying that Romney will donate his salary to charity if elected, but literally hundreds of news outlets carried the story.

Liberals and tolerance…
…should rarely go in the same sentence, since it is a bigger myth than unicorns.

This type of things exists on both sides of the aisle, unfortunately. I’m just glad that this bigot is being portrayed as the idiot he is, and I’m glad that Romney was able to show so much class.

I am pretty intolerant of Mormon’s myself - and I was raised one. And I will tell you why. Because their missionary practices throughout the world are the worst form of ethnocentrism and bigotry available. Basically - the same old christian mantra played down through the years. “Your beliefs are wrong - and will get you sent to hell.” Nothing is more intolerant than that, in my book. And while intolerance of intolerance might seem hypocritical on the surface - ignoring the intolerance of others on the grounds that it might look hypocritical to say something. . . preserves the intolerant status quo. So there we are. Hypocracy or status quo? When it comes to confronting christian bigotry of the kind displayed by prostylitizers, I will choose hypocracy, with the caveat that mine is of a lesser degree then theirs - as the be-all-end-all of mine is that theirs stop. When it does - mine will stop.
Of course - I don’t know what this “liberal” was reacting to. Plenty of hyteria about Mormon’s reeks of christian bigotry itself - which is, again, intolerable,

[…] Not so for many liberals, as the Texas Rainmaker blogs about here. Quoting Jason: Cultural diversity is a one way street for liberals. When they preach “tolerance” it’s tolerance of them, not tolerance from them… […]
