Looks like President Bush struck a nerve…
Democrats erupted in outrage on Thursday after President George W. Bush suggested a pledge by the party’s presidential front-runner Barack Obama to meet Iran’s leader was akin to appeasement of Nazi Germany.
This is priceless coming from the same party that has spent 8 years comparing President Bush to Adolf Hitler.
So what did President Bush say to get the appeasers all upset?
“Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along,” Bush said.
And the appeasers’ candidate responded by claiming it was a lie…
“It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 60th anniversary of Israel’s independence to launch a false political attack,” [Barack] Obama said.
“George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists, and the president’s extraordinary politicization of foreign policy and the politics of fear do nothing to secure the American people or our stalwart ally Israel,” he said.
Gee, Barry, I wonder where President Bush would come up with such an idea…
Maybe from the foreign policy page of BarackObama.com?
Diplomacy: Obama is the only major candidate who supports tough, direct presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions.
Or maybe from the mouth of… Barack Obama:
Mr. Obama said that Iran had been “acting irresponsibly” by supporting Shiite militant groups in Iraq. He also emphasized that Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program and its support for “terrorist activities” were serious concerns.
Making clear that he planned to talk to Iran without preconditions, Mr. Obama emphasized further that “changes in behavior” by Iran could possibly be rewarded with membership in the World Trade Organization, other economic benefits and security guarantees.
If it walks like an appeaser and quacks like an appeaser….
