Because Burning Them is So 1960s
September 7th, 2008 1:22 pm

The environmentally-conscious Democrats have apparently decided that burning the American flag to show complete and utter contempt for our national symbol is just too harmful to the environment. So when the Democrat National Convention ended and Barack’s faux greek temple was returned to Party Warehouse, they decided that the most environmentally-friendly, greenest of green, carbon-offsetting location for thousands of American flags was…

in the garbage.

Instead of owning up to their environmental sensitivities, the campaign is wiping egg off of its face with a prepared statement claiming that their patriotism is in tact because, despite leaving the flags in garbage bags by Invesco field dumpsters for over a week, they were actually stolen (what, from the garbage collectors?):

Stories circulating about flags from the Democratic National Convention are false. More than 125,000 American-made flags were distributed at the Convention - any flags removed from the Convention after the event were taken without authorization. It’s disappointing that someone would take American flags without authorization and then falsely describe their intended purpose. We have the utmost respect for the American flag and it’s sad to see them being used for a cheap political stunt.

So sayeth the candidate who thinks the American flag is nothing more than a novelty item anyway.

Maybe the Obama campaign is right and the evil Republicans stole them. Maybe the thousands of American flags had been bundled lovingly into garbage bags for easy shipment back to Chicago… so Obama’s buddy Bill Ayers could install new carpet in his home.

But don’t question their patriotism.
