I guess one will say anything when they’re getting their political ass handed to them by someone they claim has no experience. It appears to be a concerted effort by liberal bloggers, elected Democrats, the Obama campaign and the MSM. Unfortunately for the Left, facts often get in the way of their politics of personal destruction.

Liberal Lie: Web postings and emails claimed Palin cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. The bogus claim was even “reported” by CNN’s Soledad O’Brien.

Truth: She didn’t cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding over just three years.

Liberal Lie: An email circulating claimed she demanded that books be banned from the Wasilla library in the Fall of 1996.

Truth: The list includes the first four Harry Potter books, none of which had been published at the time of the alleged event. The first wasn’t published until 1998. In fact, the list is a simple cut-and-paste job, snatched (complete with typos and the occasional incorrect title) from the Florida Institute of Technology library Web page, which presents the list as “Books banned at one time or another in the United States.”

Liberal Lie: The New York Times reported (in an article designed to bolster the “never vetted” narrative) that Palin was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States.

Truth: The director of Alaska’s Division of Elections, Gail Fenumiai, confirms that Palin registered to vote in the state for the first time in May 1982 as a Republican and hasn’t changed her party affiliation since.

Liberal Lie: Democratic Congressman Robert Wexler of Florida claimed Palin supported “Nazi sympathizer” Pat Buchanan, and branded her pick by McCain as an “affront to all Jewish Americans.” Barack Obama’s spokesman also published this lie in an email to supporters.

Truth: Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once wore a Buchanan button as a “courtesy” when he visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.

And on and on and on… as these numbers continue their trend, expect this garbage from the Left to only get worse.

UPDATE: Oh no, they finally found something on Palin… apparently she billed the state of Alaska for stuff she was allowed to bill.

The main gripe here is that she billed the state for “lodging” while staying at her own home in Wasilla; the governor’s official home is in Juneau, so technically any nights spent away from there while working entitled her to a hotel per diem. WaPo supplies us with only one sample expense report which includes an item for “lodging - own residence”, but as Jonah Goldberg and David Bernstein note, there’s no amount listed on that line. She simply noted it, almost as if to say “I’m not charging anything because I stayed at my own residence.” The only amount on the line, $60, is for meals and incidentals (M&IE). The money question, then: Did WaPo simply misread her reports, treating amounts for M&IE as though they were amounts for lodging? Remember, they’ve already egregiously misread one financial report of hers, generating a smear that still hasn’t been fully scrubbed away.
