A New Day
November 5th, 2008 8:24 am

I woke up this morning to a brave, new world. Not surprising, the sun rose again today and I’m still breathing. This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. History was made last night and no matter where you sit on the political spectrum, you have to recognize it.

But if you think my support of the President-elect means that I won’t oppose him politically, philosophically and ideologically, you don’t know me very well. Remember, as we’ve been hearing for eight years now, dissent is the highest form of patriotism… though I wonder if the Left will continue to hold that line now. There is still so much we don’t know about Barack Obama. We, as a country, have cast our bet on the table… now we must figure out how to play the cards we’ve been dealt. It may not be easy… but then again, things worth fighting for rarely are.

I refuse to be like my liberal counterparts who, for the past two Presidential elections, sunk into a deep depression at the thought of an electoral loss. I am proud to be an American, where we can enjoy the peaceful transfer of power… even to those with whom we disagree so passionately. It’s what makes America the greatest country on earth.

And today, like every day, I am proud to be an American.

UPDATE: Ed has a great post on Learning to be the loyal opposition. The money quote…

Some have said that acting like petulant children worked for the Democrats in 2006 and 2008, and scoff at the notion that we should act like grown-ups now. I’d remind people that we lost the majorities in 2006 and the White House in 2008 not because Democrats acted like petulant children, but because Republicans acted like Democrats, especially on spending, pork, and corruption.
