…is upon us. Despite his flip-flops during the campaign on whether Iran was or wasn’t a threat to us, it’s clear now how he views them.

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has warned in a secret three-page memorandum to top White House officials that the United States does not have an effective long-range policy for dealing with Iran’s steady progress toward nuclear capability, according to government officials familiar with the document.

Several officials said the highly classified analysis, written in January to President Obama’s national security adviser, Gen. James L. Jones, touched off an intense effort inside the Pentagon, the White House and the intelligence agencies to develop new options for Mr. Obama. They include a revised set of military alternatives, still under development, to be considered should diplomacy and sanctions fail to force Iran to change course.

Of course there’s no serious backup plan. Obama figured his smooth talking, Chicago-style charm would erase decades of radical islamofascism hellbent on destroying Israel and the U.S. His arrogance was such that he figured a few teleprompter readings would be just what the mullahs needed to give up their decades-old war against the West.

And, as usual, he was wrong. And now he’s put all his eggs in the diplomatic basket with a regime who has threatened to wipe Israel off the map while aggressively seeking nuclear weapons. Hmmm, where have we seen this before?

It’s sad that the Obamas are more aggressive in dealing with fat kids than they are with Iran.
