…and the liberal idiocy train rolls on.

In her first vote as a Supreme Court Justice, Elena “I am not Kevin James” Kagan, sided with the liberal dissent when the Court cleared the way for the execution of an Arizona murderer.

The 5-4 ruling overturned orders by a federal judge in Phoenix and the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco that had stopped the execution by lethal injection of Jeffrey Landrigan.

His lawyers, in a last-ditch appeal, had raised questions about one of the drugs used in the execution. Since the only U.S. manufacturer of sodium thiopental had suspended production, Arizona officials said they had obtained a supply of the drug from a British company.

A judge had put the execution on hold because she said she was “left to speculate” whether this drug was safe for its intended use.

The drug was being used to put someone to DEATH, and the liberals were worried about its safety? What in the hell does that even mean?

So let me get this straight… if the drug worked as it was intended, the result would be death. If it was faulty or unsafe, the result could be… death.

Arguing over the safety of a drug administered to kill someone makes about as much sense as swabbing the site of the lethal injection with alcohol to prevent infection.

The Predictable Nomination
May 26th, 2009 8:35 am

Sonia Sotomayor makes the perfect nomination for the Community Organizer in Chief. As a judge, she has an extremely high rate of her decisions being reversed. She’s also a racist

“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life,” said Judge Sotomayor.

And a judicial activist…

And according to liberals and her own judicial colleagues, she’s not too bright.

But despite the praise from some of her former clerks, and warm words from some of her Second Circuit colleagues, there are also many reservations about Sotomayor. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been talking to a range of people who have worked with her, nearly all of them former law clerks for other judges on the Second Circuit or former federal prosecutors in New York. Most are Democrats and all of them want President Obama to appoint a judicial star of the highest intellectual caliber who has the potential to change the direction of the court. Nearly all of them acknowledged that Sotomayor is a presumptive front-runner, but nearly none of them raved about her. They expressed questions about her temperament, her judicial craftsmanship, and most of all, her ability to provide an intellectual counterweight to the conservative justices, as well as a clear liberal alternative.

The most consistent concern was that Sotomayor, although an able lawyer, was “not that smart and kind of a bully on the bench,” as one former Second Circuit clerk for another judge put it. “She has an inflated opinion of herself, and is domineering during oral arguments, but her questions aren’t penetrating and don’t get to the heart of the issue.”

All of these things point to someone whose nomination liberals would readily support under any circumstances.

But I’d like to remind GOP Senators of the standard for confirming Supreme Court nominees… that it’s absolutely proper to vote AGAINST a nominee based on “philosophical and political views, not just on the narrower grounds of character and temperament” even if they think he or she is “clearly qualified”… the standard that was set in the nominations of Roberts and Alito… by Senator Barack Obama.

UPDATE: I wonder how many Democrat Senators are going to oppose Sotomayor’s nomination because she’s a Latino…

like they did with Miguel Estrada.

This plunge into the murky deep comes from staff strategy memos we’ve obtained from the days when Democrats ran the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2001-02. Or, rather, appeared to run the committee. Their real bosses are the liberal interest groups that more or less tell the Senators when to sit, speak and roll over–and which Bush judges to confirm or not. Here are some excerpts:

“They also identified Miguel Estrada (D.C. Circuit) as especially dangerous, because he has a minimal paper trail, he is Latino, and the White House seems to be grooming him for a Supreme Court appointment. They want to hold Estrada off as long as possible.”

Upon hearing the news that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts suffered a seizure today and was taken to the hospital, Democrats assumed their standard, hateful position…

Some of the posts from DU:

16. If there is a God, then he is not too young to become the right-hand maiden to Satan in the inner reaches of Hell.

37. May Roberts and every other Bu$hco appointed treasonous Bastard rot in hell for their interpretive abuse and misuse of OUR (WE THE PEOPLES), Constitution and Rights! NO SYMPATHY HERE! MAYBE EXXON OR ONE OF THE BIG CORPS WHO CARE LESS ABOUT OUR COUNTRY AND PEOPLE WILL SEND HIM SOME LILIES.

45. Fuck him; it wouldn’t bother me if that was a one way trip.

52. There are 300 million screwed Americans… and I can no longer ellicit concerns for those whom have helped to abbrogate the constitution. I refuse to “wish him well” or pretend I hope for an early recovery. In my heart of hearts, I pray he dies slowly by an STD that he could have avoided by the condom use he felt it was wrong to advocate for American youth.I hope that tonight, John Roberts confronts his mortality, and then, weighing himself, finds himself as wanting as I do…

And, as usual, this isn’t just some fringe element thinking… it’s mainstream thinking on the Left:

Wonkette: “Chief Justice John Roberts has died in his summer home in Maine. No, not really, but we know you have your fingers crossed.”

And CrooksandLiars…

20. “I hope he is unable to return and further destroy our nation. He must have been in the shower trying to get the dirt off of himself. He must know that it is in too deep and will take more than a shower for him to come clean.”

25. “I think it’s Karma for letting the criminal Republicans like Tom delay off the hook and giving Bush all the power.”

94. “i’m thinking bad thoughts. i’m wishing for bad things.”

107. “I’m very disappointed to hear that the state of Maine would let such a nasty fascist into their fine state!”

144. “Sympathy for him? Fuck no!

And Huffington Post

“Well there is a God after all. This man was going to set this nation back 100 years with the type of conservatism activist Federalist law he practices. Let God’s will be done!!!!”

“Amen to that. A long stay away from the Court would be fine. I won’t lie, I wish him a long painful recovery. In fact, I’m not so sure I care if he recovers.”

Lets hope he is injured seriously. Chief Justice Roberts is a corupt right wing Bush lick ass criminal. Long after Bush is gone, Roberts will be helping destroy everything that is, or was once good about America.”

Gotta love the party of peace and tolerance.

This is good news.

The Supreme Court upheld the nationwide ban on a controversial abortion procedure Wednesday, handing abortion opponents the long-awaited victory they expected from a more conservative bench.

The 5-4 ruling said the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act that Congress passed and President Bush signed into law in 2003 does not violate a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion.

I’m glad this legislation was upheld. It’s a terrible procedure where a doctor partially delivers a child’s body until only the head remains inside the womb, then punctures the back of the child’s skull with a sharp instrument, and sucks the child’s brains out before completing delivery of the now-dead infant.

I find it ironic that many of the same people who advocate for legalization of this awful procedure are also in front of the protest line declaring the lethal injection of a convicted murderer is “cruel and unusual”.

3 Days Left, 3 Sources of Motivation
November 4th, 2006 11:30 pm

If you’re still waiting for some motivation to go vote, here’s a few reasons:

1. Charlie Rangel promised to quit if Democrats didn’t take over Congress.

2. Justice John Paul Stevens may be retiring by year’s end.

3. Two Words: Speaker Pelosi

From the Arizona Republic:

Arizona voters will have to present identification at the polls on Nov. 7 after all.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Friday that Arizona can go ahead with requiring voters to present a photo ID, starting with next month’s general election, as part of the Proposition 200 that voters passed in 2004. The ruling overturns an Oct. 5 decision by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which put the voter ID rules on hold this election cycle.

Of course, this was simply a procedural ruling, not a ruling on the merits of the constitutionality, but it’s a start.

Amazing.

Update: For those of you who may not realize it, this case was brought by Osama bin Laden’s own bodyguard/limo driver. Keep that in mind as you defend his “rights”.

I posted about this almost 3 years ago when Texas Democrats walked off the job and threw a temper tantrum because they weren’t getting their way.

Today, the United States Supreme Court affirmed the congressional map engineered by Tom Delay. With the exception of a single district in southwest Texas, the court upheld the entire map.

In the lead opinion for the court, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote, “We reject the statewide challenge to Texas’ redistricting as an unconstitutional political gerrymander and the challenge to the redistricting in the Dallas area as a violation of the Voting Rights Act.”

I’ll repeat the last line of my post from 3 years ago:

But the democrats in typical fashion have decided that they don’t like the outcome, so they’re just not going to show up for work. Just imagine if we all did that to our employers……

How typical is it that Democrats lose an election and resort to court challenges to try and overturn election results. It’s no wonder they want to pack the judicial branch with liberal activists. It’s a way to circumvent the electorate and ram their idiotic policies down our throats.

And yet they lost again. Maye this time they’ll challenge the ruling by fleeing… the country.

Maybe There is a Santa Afterall
February 2nd, 2006 3:20 pm
Just imagine for one second the possibilities this story would bring if true… (I know, take this source with a grain of salt):

Speculation is that Justice John Paul Stevens, the court’s most liberal member, will retire in the near future, possibly as soon as this year.

A sequel to Michelle’s book would likely write itself…

Up or Down
January 30th, 2006 3:51 pm
The vote for cloture has just passed (72 - 25), despite opposition by the extreme leftwingers. Judge Sam Alito’s confirmation to the Supreme Court of the United States will be voted upon tomorrow morning at 11:00am Eastern.

For those who continue to rehash this filibuster nonsense, clamoring that it’s a tool of the oppressed minority used against a tyrannical majority, remember that the American people decided the current makeup of the Senate (with the exception of Jim Jefford’s unilateral post-election party-hopping) through the electoral process. The beauty of this system is that the people can make the changes necessary by electing different representatives. Remember also that there were Democrats that voted against the filibuster… in addition to Democrats planning to vote for his confirmation.

This was simply an attempt by the radical leftwingers to be obstructionists again, acting like children engaging in a temper tantrum because they’re not getting their way. Afterall, the Constitution says the President shall nominate and appoint judges of the Supreme Court by and with the advice and consent of the Senate… not the few leftwing holdouts who want to turn the nomination process into a campaign backdrop.
